Carl Norman: Hey everyone, how are you doing? Um, wanted to share something with you today… to be honest with you, it is a little bit of my passion.  And that is harnessing the power of fear, because let’s be honest with you, we are all fearful of something.  All the people attempting to run away from things which we’ve discussed before in previous videos; running away from pain instead of running towards pleasure and thinking about all the good things that probably you have in your life.  But the fact is that you hold it on to too much of that fear and think to yourself, ‘do you know what, I need to get myself out of this pain.’  So today, let me tell you a little story; this little story is obviously about my boy - you know that I use Maxipops a lot in my stories because, to be honest with you, he is a huge inspiration to me.  And um, I just can’t believe that I’m got him in my life to be honest with you because he’s just an incredible kid.  But anyway, more about that in future videos.  Um, Max is probably about 7 years of age; we walk around (inaudible) beach, uh, ‘cause obviously we’ve lived there for a few years.  And, um, there’s a pier, um, Max says—well I say—‘should we go run along to the pier, let’s run right to the end, let’s jump off, let’s jump into the water,’ and he says to me, ‘no, dad, it might just fall down.’  So I’m thinking to myself, ‘what, I don’t really get that.’  But his fear stopped him from actually getting on to that pier.  So as we’ll walk along, I’m starting to think to myself, ‘Oh, can I actually change his mindset to think that, ok—it is something to fear; it is something that is there—but what we’ve got to do is we’ve got to weigh it up and see if the fear is actually great enough to let him stop going onto that pier and enjoying himself and have a little bit of a life.  Or, is the fear too great and will not allow him to do that?  So as we’ll walk along, I start to throw things at him and say, ‘You know, how deep is the water where the end of the pier is?’  And he says, ‘Well I see people swimming in the ocean, it’s not that far out.’  And I said, ‘You’re a good swimmer, aren’t you?’ ‘Oh yeah, I’m a great swimmer, dad.’  (Sarcastic) Yeah.  So I’m starting to say, ‘ok, well if people are swimming there, is anyone standing up?’  ‘Yeah, I can see some kids, do you think that they are bigger than you?’   No, dad, they don’t look bigger than me.’  So, chances are if we went into the water, if it all collapsed and everything came around us, then chances are we’d be able to stand up, swim in the ocean; be able to swim the way back.  Are you getting this?  Because basically what I’ve done, is I’ve planted things in his head to say, ‘you know what? Use that fear, hold it tight, but then use it for benefit.  Don’t use it to stop you from doing something.’  We ran onto the pier—we didn’t jump off the edge—but he ran onto the pier, ran right to the end without a care in the world and I’m thinking to myself, ‘this is great.  Just by using certain words and planting certain things in his mind to realize that, actually, it’s not the end of the world.  It wouldn’t be the end of the world actually if it came crashing all around us.  Chances are, we’d go into the water, we’d swim to safety, we’d get back to the shore; he’d be a happy boy.   Guys, how can you utilize and harness that power of fear to move you forward in your life instead of things that are holding you back and stopping you from doing things that you genuinely want to do?  Worried about what other people are going to say about you, worried about how you look, what you say, how you do it?  The amount of times that I’ve had criticism for doing what I’m doing now – it’s ridiculous!  Think it’s going to stop me from doing anything?  Not a chance!  Guys, have a fantastic day and I look forward to speaking to you very soon.  Harness that fear!
