Simon Rego, Ph.D., director of psychology training at Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York, says, too often we get frustrated by focusing on a specific number on the scale, or even a task we must do to reach our goal (like working out), which is a pretty quick way to zap your motivation.
I agree, why look at just one thing as the MAIN source of encouragement to help you carry on? C,mon, we all know that the scales can say different things at different times of the day or week, its not always going to go to plan is it?.. so why just use one source of inspiration to judge how you truly feel?? See what I’m saying? I believe that we all work on a higher playing field, I honestly and truly believe that our emotions guide us to act in different ways and I want to explain how that works with weight loss. How do you feel when you have eaten well and you have made the time to sit down and consciously think abut the goodness you are putting in your body, rarely I can imagine! The pace of life can be so hectic, you would be lucky if you ate on the go, never mind skip meals! But when you do, you feel really good about yourself don't you? Its like going to the gym, when you have been and its over, there is no greater feeling of achievement, the happy hormones are flowing and you feel on top of the world don't you? So what changes? CONSISTENCY…. But getting to my point, the way you ‘FEEL” in the moment should be the driving force to carry on, you know it and I know it! So with that in mind, here’s my tip for today: Look at multiple ways of seeing your progress; don't just look for one single thing to judge everything from. Don't bin the scales just yet, but start to look at the way you look, the way you feel, how clothes feel on your skin etc to make an informed decision on how your progress is going.
